Volunteering and Helping Hands
Our Helping Hands projects take teams of employee volunteers to work directly at the homes of sick children to improve their quality of life. This could involve remodelling a child’s bedroom or redesigning a garden to make it accessible for a young person in a wheelchair.
We are able to create unique and exceptional volunteering opportunities for company employees – with the chance for them to make a direct and positive difference to the lives of seriously ill children.
All projects are fully managed by WellChild’s Helping Hands team from start to completion. No prior knowledge or skill is required of the volunteers as we can provide any necessary training and guidance on the day. All projects take one or two days to complete and can be tailored to accommodate different volunteer team sizes
Helping Hands provides companies with:
- a cost-effective, direct and tangible route to demonstrate social responsibility
- a cost effective and fun alternative to the usual team building experience
- team leadership and project management development opportunities
- opportunities for local and regional media coverage
But more importantly!
- the chance to make a real difference to the lives of sick children and their families

Here is what some of our companies have had to say about their involvement with Helping Hands:
The two days were the best team building days I have ever done. I think any company of any size should get involved in something like this as you are truly making a difference, and having fun at the same time!
Louise, SSL International
“As a company, we want our employees to help local communities, and we find that Helping Hands is a great way to volunteer and also to make a tangible difference to a family or child in need. Helping Hands is a great development and team-building tool, and our involvement with WellChild is a positive way of engaging with the community and promoting our reputation as a responsible company.”
James Wallace, Royal Sun Alliance
WellChild also has many other volunteering opportunities for staff teams to help out at our social and challenge events – with a variety of tasks available from cheer point management at the London Marathon to celebrity assistance at the WellChild Awards.
"Helping Hands offers an exceptional opportunity for companies to give some instant benefit to the lives of the many seriously ill children we have the privilege of helping."
Lee Trunks, WellChild Helping Hands Project Manager
