Kearan's story

Kearan Tounge-GibbsA hard working team of volunteers from npower worked with WellChild on a Helping Hands project for 11 year old Kearan Tongue-Gibbs in Redditch on July 21 and 22. The project was a great success and made national media headlines.

Kearan has missing forearms and hands and also has reflex anoxic seizures. Despite this he really gets stuck into any challenge put before him and is a keen sportsman. He loves his sport and has been identified as being “Gifted and Talented” by the English Cricket Board.

Members of the NPower team who worked on the gardenIn partnership with npower, WellChild set about transforming Kearan’s garden. It was levelled with a new lawn laid and some bowling nets for him to develop his natural ability and talent. Fencing was also improved to help make it an appealing space for him and his siblings to enjoy.

Kearan’s mum Carrie was delighted the Helping Hands team had been able to give him a garden space to practice his cricket.

She said: “It looks really good, such a difference, Kearan will be out there all the time. You have all worked so hard, thank you.”

Kearan’s Helping Hands project caught the imagination of the public with major media interest including a piece in the Daily Mail here and an appearance on Sky TV here.
