Mohammad, Hazaifh and Ziyad's story

A hard working volunteer team from manufacturing company SSL International recently transformed the bedroom of brothers, thirteen year old Mohammad, eleven year old Hazaifh and four year old Ziyad Patel, all of whom have serious health conditions.

The brothers have varying health issues which they have had to deal with since birth, including Ulcerative Colitis, Crohn’s disease, hearing loss, speech delay, mouth ulcers and joint pains. Understandably, the boys and their parents have very busy lives in coping with all of these conditions and providing treatment on a daily basis so their time at home can be really tough at times. It was for this reason that the Helping Hands team stepped in to assist the family in creating a nicer environment for the boys in which to spend time.

As the brothers were getting bigger the need for a larger room became greater so their parents swapped rooms with their sons in order to provide this for them. The project team began the two day makeover by clearing the room and filling in the walls from any cracks and holes which had appeared over time. The walls were then painted a clean, bright white and the carpet ripped out and replaced with a new red one. Furniture was built and put in place along with red curtains and a football light fitting to create a Manchester United themed bedroom of which the boys are big fans. The end result left the brothers with a very ‘boy’ themed room which they can all share together and hopefully enjoy spending time as they grow.

Lee Trunks, the WellChild Helping Hands Project Manager, said he was delighted with the way the project had gone, “The family had found that Mohammad, Hazaifh and Ziyad simply needed more space as they were growing up.” he said.

“Having three children with serious health problems, their parents felt that they should have a larger room but were unable to decorate it the way that they wanted for them. The volunteer team stepped in to create an area that they can hopefully enjoy spending time being brothers without focusing on their ongoing health issues. I’d like to thank the volunteer team from SSL International who put in a lot of hard work into getting a great result for the family.”
