WellChild Nurse - Julia Milton

Julia is part of the Integrated Service for Children with Disabilities in Tower Hamlets. This Service brings together health, education and social services with the aim of building an effective joint working process to meet the needs of disabled children living in one of the most deprived areas of Europe. Julia co-ordinates the care of the children with the most needs, ensuring that they and their families have access to the appropriate services and support.

Julia is leading the work with the Royal London Hospital developing a care pathway for discharging children with complex needs from hospital to home. The aim of this is to ensure children do not have unnecessarily long periods in hospital and that services needed are identified and put in place at the earliest possible time. Julia also looks into the respite provision for families of children with complex needs – a challenging role since services are limited and there are not enough resources to meet the demands of the families.

Julia trained as a childrens’ nurse at Great Ormond Street Hospital between1992-1995. Since then she has worked in different settings in both the hospital and community in various London boroughs. Julia started working in Tower Hamlets as a Community Childrens’ Nurse in June 2005 and then became the WellChild Nurse for Tower Hamlets in December 2006.

Julia is married and has an 8 month old daughter, Chloë. She grew up in Devon and has lived in London for the last 15 years.

Julia thoroughly enjoys her work as a WellChild Nurse and the challenges she faces working with the Integrated Service to help children with complex needs to reach their full potential.
