Deepak's story

Fourteen year old Deepak from Wolverhampton was in desperate need of a bedroom makeover when his family gotin touch with the Helping Hands team.

Deepak has a complex condition called Tuberous Sclerosis along with Epilepsy which affects him in having daily seizures occurring both day and night. Deepak requires 24-hour care as he is affected both physically and mentally as well as being unable to talk and is in a wheelchair.

In order to limit Deepak’s boredom and frustration he requires frequent stimulation and loves musical toys, light and sound in order to keep his mind occupied. With this in mind the Helping Hands team designed a bright and colourful bedroom makeover for Deepak making sure that there was not a dull corner of the room.

The team spent two days painting colourful murals across the walls of his large room and laying bright jigsaw flooring to ensure that wherever Deepak looked, there was something to keep him amused. The pictures included scenes of cars speeding over hills, hot air balloons taking off into the sun and dolphins on a blue wall. The finishing touch was Deepak’s name decorated in rainbow colours above his window to add to the new found sense of fun in the bedroom.

Deepak’s mum, Anjela said: “Thank you so much to WellChild. Deepak’s room looks so great. He loves cars and now that he has some painted onto his walls we will now never get him out!”
