Health Advisory Panels - Sue Banton
Sue is Director of Steps, a charity which works worldwide supporting people with lower limb abnormalities. Sue is a retired secondary school teacher and founded Steps in 1980. She also worked as a qualified Hospital Play Specialist for six years and was a member the executive committee of the Association of Hospital Play Staff and a member of Action for Sick Children.
Sue was part of the MRC Congenital Dislocated Hip working group for six years which was responsible for managing the MRC RCT Hip Trial, which finished in 2002, and for informing the National Screening Committee on infant hip screening. In addition Sue was on the National Perinatal Epidemiology Unit advisory panel for four years until 2003 and a member of the External Reference Group of the “Making it Better” consultation for Paediatric and Maternity Services in Greater Manchester.
Sue is currently a member of Involve as well as being on the Executive Committee of the British Paediatric Surveillance Unit and various joint working groups on limb loss and disability. More recently Sue has been working with the Clubfoot Research Group at the University of Aberdeen on the Exploring the Causes of Clubfoot in Europe (ECCE) project and is Chair of a Big Lottery Grant research project – “The issue of appearance and choice of the prosthesis for young people with limb loss” and a member of the Medicines for Children Research Network Consumer Involvement Steering Group.
