England's footballers join the WellChild team

Following the England players' decision to set up their own charitable trust – the Team England Footballers Charity - the squad have made it their goal to support WellChild up until the end of the 2010 World Cup.

The England players will donate international match fees, as well as their time, to WellChild to help raise awareness of our work and vital services - something which is a huge boost to us and our work for children and young people.

England midfielder Gareth Barry explained: “When the players decided to set up the Team England Footballers Charity, WellChild was exactly the kind of organisation we were looking to support. WellChild is involved with some amazing work to care for and support sick children right across the country, and the players are proud to be able to help the charity reach as many young people and their families as possible.”

WellChild's Chief Executive added: “We are incredibly grateful to the England players for choosing to support WellChild. In addition to the crucial funds raised through this partnership, which will go directly to our work to support children and young people across the UK, this relationship is invaluable when it comes to raising awareness of the need for our services.

“For so many of the children and young people we work with, the England players are true heroes and it is fantastic for them as individuals, and for us to have the backing of the players.”
