Dr Elina Hyppönen is a Reader in Epidemiology and Public Health, MRC Centre of Epidemiology for Child Health, UCL Institute of Child Health. She has a background in epidemiology (PhD), nutrition (MSc), public health (MPH) and medical statistics (MSc).
She is currently a holder of Department of Health (UK) Career Scientist Award, an Adjunct Professor in Epidemiology at the University of Tampere (Finland), Honorary Senior Lecturer in Epidemiology at the Department of Epidemiology and Public Health, Imperial College, London and a member of MRC College of Experts.
Her main research interests are in life-course, intergenerational and genetic influences on growth and disease risk, as well as in short- and long-term health effects of vitamin D.
She leads a major programme of work aiming to establish the influence of genetic variation on vitamin D status, related health consequences and public health implications, using information from several large cohort studies.
