Melanie Riley began her job on November 30, 2009 as WellChild Children’s Community Nurse based in Barrow in Furness, Cumbria.

Melanie is an ideal addition to our hard-working team of WellChild nurses as she has worked as a children’s nurse for many years. She has previously worked in as a sister in Paediatric A&E, in Child and Adolescent Mental Health and as a Nurse Advisor for an out of hours service.

As WellChild Nurse in South Cumbria, Melanie will provide home and community based nursing support to many children and young people with a range of health care needs. Many of these children will have spent weeks and months in hospital when they could be at home with their families, given the right support.

Melanie will work to get children discharged from hospital so they can be cared for at home and organize carers and training so the children are cared for safely.

She will also focus on the needs of the families – supporting them through times of crisis and training them to use any special equipment their child may require.

Melanie has two cats and enjoys cooking and theatre.
