WellChild in collaboration with The Sensory Trust Project SNAP

In collaboration with The Sensory Trust, Lee, Head of WellChild Helping Hands, has joined the ‘Sensory, Nature, Adventures and Play’ (SNAP) advisory panel. The Sensory Trust project, SNAP, works with children with disabilities and their families to create sensory, nature-based adventures such as stories, games and creative activities. WellChild Helping Hands programme provides garden and bedroom makeovers, making spaces accessible, safe and fun for children and young people with exceptional health needs.

Lee, Head of WellChild Helping Hands, says: “This project provides a brilliant opportunity for WellChild Helping Hands and The Sensory Trust to work together, share knowledge and gain a greater understanding of how families spend their time outdoors.”

Lynsey, Inclusive Designer at the Sensory Trust said: “When setting up the SNAP advisory board The Sensory Trust wanted to ensure we had a range of practitioners working in this field to contribute to the project. Access to the outdoors is vital for our well being; however it can be more challenging for families with children with disabilities who often face additional barriers.

The Sensory Trust felt that by partnering with WellChild Helping Hands programme we could; share our learning and experience of giving families the opportunity to spend more time outdoors, understand how families connect with nature, help to build their confidence and improve their physical and mental well being.

Working in partnership allows us to broaden our understanding of how families interact with the outdoors and through a shared approach, and our specific areas of work, we can support each other to have a better understanding of families needs, making our efforts more effective.”

You can find full details of the project on The Sensory Trust website. Take part in their short survey about how you and your family use outdoor spaces, to help inform the work of the project.
