They’re not scary and we hope they won’t bite but be on the lookout for our purple critters if you are out and about in the countryside this year as they will be in a field, farm yard or looking over a hedge near you.
The critters are appearing in fields as a result of a competition for farmers organised by Carrs Billington Agriculture to support WellChild, the national charity for seriously ill children.
Farmers are again being challenged to create their critters from silage bales wrapped in WellChild’s colour purple. They can customise their bales with special sticker packs provided by Carrs Billington.
Over the past two years Carrs Billington and their staff have donated over £25,000 to WellChild with their purple bales campaigns. Farmers taking part in the competition will send in photos of their creations to be displayed on the WellChild and Carrs Billington Facebook pages. The farmer whose critter display is judged the best, will receive two tickets for the prestigious WellChild Awards 2018 which will take place at the Royal Lancaster Hotel, London later this year. This star studded event, which is attended by a host of celebrities, and often by WellChild Patron Prince Harry, gives awards to inspirational children coping with serious illness, to caring children and to dedicated child health professionals.
If you want to see all the displays from around the country, visit Carr Billingtons’ Facebook page, or search #purplecritters on social media.
Carrs Billington has a network of stores supplying agricultural products and services to the rural community across England and Scotland, and again will be donating at least £10,000 this year to support WellChild’s work with seriously ill children and their families. As part of their support they will be distributing the purple silage wrap and netwrap supplied by Zeus Packaging Group. They will be asking famers and contractors to show their support by choosing to buy purple.
Zeus Packaging Group have given Carrs Billington the exclusive distribution rights of their Purple Silagewrap and Purple Netwrap in the UK. This is a part of a global project launched by Zeus to support children’s charities in Ireland, the UK, Spain, Portugal, New Zealand and Australia. The purple bales dotted in fields around the world will represent the support they are giving to children and young people who need our help.
WellChild Chief Executive Colin Dyer said: “This is the third year that we have been lucky enough to have the kind support of Carrs Billington and Zeus Packaging. The bale critters in WellChild purple will be a surprising and amusing sight in fields all over the UK and the money raised will help greatly with our work to support seriously ill children and their families.”
Rae Tomlinson, Carrs Billington Managing Director said: “Carrs Billington are delighted to continue our support for a charity that undertakes such valuable work. The efforts of WellChild make a considerable difference to the lives of seriously ill children and we know our staff and customers have enjoyed the purple campaign on previous years.”
