Meet the WellChild Parent Ambassadors!

Posted on the 20th February 2019

Our WellChild Parent Ambassadors are a network of parents and carers of children with exceptional health needs from across the UK. They volunteer with us to raise awareness of our work and help us reach even more families who might need our support.

Our amazing Parent Ambassadors have been, or are being supported by WellChild and are members of our WellChild Family Tree network. The role of the Parent Ambassador is focused on three areas:

Reaching Out

Parent Ambassadors bring families together by organising meet ups where they can make friends make memories and find out more about WellChild. This is what Parent Ambassador Helen had to say about bringing families together at the Dreamnight at the Zoo event in June:

“Seeing the joy on the children's faces as they all bonded together and played with other families that they may have never met in normal circumstances and best of all, seeing parents relax because they knew they weren't alone in the struggles of having time out with a child with disabilities.”

Parent Voice

Parent Ambassadors share their experiences and journeys of caring for their children, and the support they have received from WellChild to help demonstrate the impact of our work. Parent Ambassadors also keep us informed of local challenges families are facing to help shape our future projects. This is what Parent Ambassador Emma had to say about sharing her journey with her son Joshua:

“We want to normalise conversations around children with complex health needs and we are more than happy to share Joshua’s Journey and will continue to do so as we navigate the coming years. The WellChild Family Tree gives us that “support network” we so desperately need and sharing Joshua’s Journey allows us to reach even more families that could benefit from that network”

Supporting Us

Speaking openly about their experiences at beneficiary events and fundraising pitches, Parent Ambassadors help raise much needed funds and awareness of the work we do. Parent Ambassador Laura had this to say about sharing her journey for a recent beneficiary event:

It’s hard sometimes sharing your life, however I know that our life is extraordinary and highlights the importance of WellChild Better at Home Training Resources. I was delighted to hear the film we helped with at the October club meant the fundraising achieved that night exceeded anyone’s’ expectations. It’s heart-warming to know that sharing what we go through helps people relate and encourage people to see the value in the wonderful work WellChild do.
