FAQ's

How many runners will be taking part?

There are usually around 37,000 runners that take part in this race. The WellChild team has usually around 160 runners so you are bound to see one of them as you’re running the course!

Is there a minimum age?

Yes, the minimum age requirement is 18 years of age or above on the day of the race.

How do I apply for a place?

Over 125,000 people apply for a ballot place direct through the official London Marathon website http://www.virginmoneylondonmarathon.com/. If you have been successful they will inform you in October.

It is best to apply for a ballot place as well as doing so through WellChild. Applications to join our team start on London Marathon race day and you will then be informed if you have a place by June. Although we allocate places before the ballot if you are successful in the main ballot you can still join our team, raise sponsorship and benefit from all the advantages of running for us. To apply for a WellChild Guaranteed place complete the application form above.

How much money do I have to raise?

Pledge to raise £1,600 in sponsorship (not including Gift Aid). If you have secured your own place there is no set target and we just ask you to raise as much as you can.

What support will WellChild give?

Join the team and you’ll receive your training and fundraising pack that gives you loads of advice. In addition you will receive regular enewsletter updates, technical running vest, fundraising materials, post race reception with food/drink and professional leg massage. You will also benefit from our cheer points around the course who will encourage you to the finish line. The WellChild Challenge Events Manager Steve will also be on hand to give you any advice and is on the other end of the phone to prepare you for your big day!

Am I fit enough?

You’ll need to train hard as marathon running is no easy challenge! You need to be able to complete the course in under six and half hours.

Do I need any specialist equipment?

No, just a pair of trainers and a lot of determination!

What happens if I’m injured or need to withdraw?

If you are injured before the challenge and need to withdraw please contact the Challenge Events department at WellChild as soon as possible. If you are injured on the day of the race organises will have adequate first aid cover.

Where can I find out more about on the day logistics?
