The Great Wall of China was originally constructed to keep out nomadic tribes who raided China’s Northern frontier.
Your trekking challenge starts in Jinshanling with a vigorous upward climb requiring you to mount thousands of steps that loop along the mountains either side of the Gubeikou Gateway.
Each day you will trek approximately 12kms along the stony path, twisting and winding its way along the mountains, interspersed with crumbling watchtowers.
It is demanding but also very rewarding, particularly on a clear day when you can look at the vast and beautiful mountain ranges. Your imagination will take you back several centuries to when the wall was the frontline defence of Imperial China.
On completion of your challenge you will return to Beijing to explore some of the many attractions of China’s capital city including the Forbidden City and Tiananmen Square. All site entrance fees and Beijing guide and transport included.
There are two main payment options:
Minimum sponsorship option
You pay a non refundable registration fee and pledge to raise a minimum amount of sponsorship for WellChild. You will be asked to pay 80% of this sponsorship target at least 10 weeks before the challenge takes place in order for WellChild to pay your tour costs.
Self funded option
You pay the non refundable registration fee and 10 weeks before the challenge pay the tour costs. There is no minimum fundraising target but if you support WellChild you will receive lots of fundraising and training advice from our experienced team.
This is an exciting trek and perfect if you are a first time overseas trekker as you do not camp! Trek the Great Wall with stunning backdrops of mountain peaks, meet new friends and make a huge difference to sick children in the UK.
This challenge is taking place on a number of occasions throughout 2018. To check out other dates, visit here.
