A purple peloton of forty-five Team WellChild cyclists took to the streets of London on Sunday, raising £16,462. It is hoped that this will rise to £20,000 once all the funds have been collected; and help to support children with complex care needs and their families live their lives to the full.

The entire team completed the event which is a tremendous effort. As a result of Team WellChild’s hard work, more children with complex conditions and needs from all over the UK will be supported further. A huge thank you also goes to Creed Food Service for donating snacks and refreshments for our volunteers and cyclists on the day.

Our very own Callum Campbell, Fundraiser for Individual and Donor Development, completed the ride in a time of 7 hours and 17 minutes, said at the finish line.

"What an amazing day! To have the opportunity to ride on closed roads around the capital and the surrounding hills was an amazing experience. What’s more, the whole team did so with the knowledge that our efforts allow WellChild to be able to provide vital services and support to seriously ill children and their families."

“Between miles 40 and 60 the tiredness was in danger of setting in! But the knowledge that my friends and family were sponsoring me to finish this challenge for WellChild, and the camaraderie between the Team WellChild riders kept me going. The generosity of all the sponsors who supported our riders has been nothing short of incredible.

I would also like to thank my colleagues for their unwavering support on the day. WellChild’s support throughout my training schedule was also absolutely brilliant.”

A truly special thank you must go to our Head of Challenge Events and Support Engagement, Melanie Parker, who along with her team worked tirelessly to make RideLondon 2019, yet again a success.

At the event, the experience of our participants is so important to us. On Sunday, our riders were encouraged around the course by our manned cheerpoints which were fully equipped with all the essentials as well as noise, fun and laughter.

Due to the popularity of the event, Team WellChild will be pedaling around the streets of the capital again in 2020. If you are passionate about the need for seriously ill young people and children being cared for at home, surrounded by love ones, join us so we can reach more deserving ill children.
