Eligibility statement

WellChild is the national charity giving children and young people with serious health needs the best chance to thrive – properly supported at home with their families.

At WellChild, we are not diagnosis specific. So, what do we mean by serious health needs?

Children and young people with serious health needs tend to have two or more long-term and complex medical conditions, which may or may not have a diagnosis. These children experience unique barriers in daily life compared to other children, often heavily rely on health services and have a range of different specialities working with them to enable them to thrive.

The children we support will be life-limited, disabled, or will be reliant on medical equipment to sustain life, for example:

  • Children on long-term ventilation
  • Children on dialysis
  • Children on parenteral nutrition

Some of the children we support will not be reliant on medical equipment, but still require a high level of additional support from health professionals and often have a complex regime of medication management.

WellChild Nurse and Better At Home training suite eligibility are determined by the local health service provider they are based in.

Our programmes are not suitable for children and young people living with just one of the following conditions:

  • Behavioural disorders e.g. ADHD, ODD etc.
  • Mental illnesses e.g. anorexia, depression, Tourette’s syndrome.
  • Cancer
  • Visual impairment
  • Hearing impairment

If you are struggling with accessing support for a child with one of these conditions, we recommend you visit:
