Casey accesses garden for the first time thanks to WellChild and St James’s Place Wealth Management

St James's Place Wealth Management volunteers helped transform this family garden into an accessible space for 15 year old Casey.

15 year old Casey loves being outdoors, playing and spending quality time with her family.

However, the family did not have an outside space suitable to Casey’s needs. The side and front gardens lacked privacy and the rear garden was not wheelchair accessible. Casey has cerebral palsy and is a full time wheelchair user and desperately needed an outdoor space she could enjoy.

Thankfully volunteers from St James’s Place Wealth Management came forward to help us transform a section of the garden into a safe, fun and accessible space for Casey.

The finished garden

On a cold and damp day the volunteers stripped back a space within the garden that used to be occupied by an old shed. They broke up the concrete base before levelling up the sloping ground and constructed frames for decking, raised planters and artificial grass.

A second day was then spent laying the composite decking boards, erecting balustrade fencing and putting down the artificial grass. The garden was then finished with sensory planting, solar lighting and a colourful ball play wall.

Casey can now safely access her very own garden space, allowing her to spend quality time outside with family and friends.

Huge thanks to St James’s Place Wealth Management volunteers and also to West Way Nissan for enabling us to get ourselves and the tools to Casey’s garden makeover safely.

"It’s absolutely perfect for her."
