A host of golf loving celebrities will be teeing off to help seriously ill children in the WellChild Matchplay Challenge to raise money for WellChild’s work with seriously ill children and their families across the UK.

The celebs will take each other on in a knockout competition on courses up and down the UK until the eventual winner is crowned champion and wins £15,000 which will be donated to WellChild.

Taking part in the event will be celebrities Kriss Akabusi, Gail Emms, Mark Foster, Trevor Nelson, Charlie Hodgson, Tom Stanley, Rishi Persad, Andrew Castle, James Jordan, John Regis, Mark Butcher, Oli Bell, Clarke Carlisle, Iain Dowie, Steve Parry, Alan McInally, Kevin Phillips, Ollie Phelps, James Phelps, James Taylor, Charles Dagnall, Derek Redmond.

All are regular WellChild supporters who have taken part in the charity’s celebrity golf challenges in past years which are cancelled in 2020 because of COVID-19. They are stepping up to take part in this competition and all will be keeping their fans and supporters up to date with the competition through social media and encouraging them to donate to WellChild’s work online at wellchild.org.uk/donate.

The £15,000 donation to the charity is being provided by an anonymous donor, in addition there will be prizes for the winning celebrity donated generously by long-standing WellChild supporters, Martin & Co the Jewellers and Lynx Golf.

Please keep an eye out for the social media hashtag #wellchildgolf2020 to keep up to date on all the rounds and what everyone is getting up to out on the course.

The celebrity Matchplay Challenge will allow WellChild to carry on its work to support hundreds of complex needs children throughout the UK and raise vital funds to replace some of the 60 per cent of funding that WellChild has lost due to the epidemic.

WellChild Chief Executive Colin Dyer said: “A big thanks to all the celebrities taking part in this year’s very different golf event for WellChild, it’s great that people are coming up with alternative ways to make things work during the epidemic and the money raised through the Matchplay Challenge will be vital in helping WellChild support seriously ill children and their families during these very difficult times.”
