Become a Parent Ambassador
Our WellChild Parent Ambassadors are a UK wide network of parents and carers of children with serious health and complex medical needs. They volunteer and support us to raise awareness of our work we do.
The activities a Parent Ambassador undertakes enables us to reach out to more families, elevate the voices of parents and carers, and support us at events to raise awareness of the work we do.
Reaching New Families
By telling other families about our WellChild Family Tree network, and organising meet ups; you can help us reach more families so they can connect to others and make friends, make memories and find out more about the support WellChild offers.
Sharing their Family Story
You can share or sharing your experiences and journey with your child, and the support you’ve received from WellChild to raise awareness and help demonstrate the impact of the work we do. This can help us secure support from potential funders and reach health professionals and new families.
Raising Awareness & Fundraising
Our Parent Ambassadors have represented WellChild at beneficiary events and even funding pitches. By speaking openly about their experiences of life caring for a child with serious health and complex medical needs, and the positive impact WellChild has had on their lives, they have helped raise awareness of the support we provide and helped us raise much needed funds to continue our work.
Informing our Work
Parent Ambassadors are vital in helping us understand the challenges parents and carers are facing. By keeping us informed of local challenges, they are invaluable in shaping our ongoing projects and strategy.
Who can be a Parent Ambassador?
Our Parent Ambassadors are parents and carers of children with exceptional health needs, who are already members of our WellChild Family Tree network and receiving support from WellChild.
How much time is required?
We ask that you give as much or as little time as you can; we know that life can get very busy at times and the Parent Ambassador role is flexible around you.
Our Ambassador role would suit you if you:
- Are a parent/carer of a child with exceptional health needs.
- Are looking for a flexible volunteering role.
- Like connecting with other families similar to your own.
- Would like to share your journey.
Will I receive support from WellChild?
You will have a designated contact in the WellChild Family Services team and there will be support before and after any volunteering you do, to ensure you have everything you need to carry out your role with confidence. There will also be training and the opportunity to get together in person to meet your fellow Parent Ambassadors.
You will also be added to a closed Facebook group where you can find out about the latest volunteering opportunities and chat about ideas you might have with your fellow Parent Ambassadors.
You can access a Communications Toolkit that is full of hints and tips including advice on how to reach out and connect with other families, talk about WellChild and deliver short talks.
We also provide small budgets to help organise meet ups and reach out to more families. Please speak to your contact in the WellChild Family Services team before arranging a WellChild meet up.
