Giving children with serious health needs and their families a voice.

Our campaigns give parents and carers of children with serious health needs a voice. We aim to raise awareness about what it is really like to care for a child with serious health needs, influence decision makers and help families access the services they need to make sure their child thrives at home.

Recently we have campaigned for:

  • Changes to the Government guidance for aerosol generating procedures (AGP) in education, to allow more children who require AGP to return to in-person education.
  • Children who require ventilation to be made a priority during a shortage of ventilator parts in 2020, and to ensure that future supply lines were protected and ring-fenced so that families could get the supplies they need.
 

The Care Crisis

WellChild urgently calls for a ‘new deal’ for families with seriously ill children. Families are increasingly being asked to fill the void left by complex care staff shortages and this is having a dangerous impact on an already tired and weary population of unpaid carers, whose children require round the clock medical supervision and complex care.

Campaign news

Many children with serious health needs and their families felt forgotten during the coronavirus pandemic. A number of issues specific to children with complex needs arose, such as a dangerous shortage of ventilator parts and a lack of provision for children who require aerosol generating procedures to return to in-person education.

Disabled Children's Partnership

WellChild is a leading member of the Disabled Children's Partnership, a coalition of more than 80 organisations campaigning for improved health and social care for disabled children, young people and their families. We believe that children with serious health needs and their families should have access to the services they need, so they have the same quality of life and access to opportunities other families have.
