WellChild, the national charity for seriously ill children, is thrilled to share the success of the inaugural ‘Christmas at Sudeley’ event that took place on Monday, December 11th at Sudeley Castle in Cheltenham. Hosted by Elizabeth, Lady Ashcombe, the star-studded evening brought together international art buyers, esteemed business owners, philanthropists and celebrities including Jeremy Irons and Elle Macpherson for a magical night of festive goodwill.

The event, held against the magical backdrop of Sudeley Castle during the renowned ‘Spectacle of Light,’ featured a private performance by the Royal Ballet and Christmas carols performed by Cheltenham Prep School Choir upon arrival. An auction amidst a festive feast saw some remarkable lots sold off to generous bidders. Lots included a luxury Scottish Highland retreat with a Michelin star trained chef, The Frank Worth Hollywood Collection containing a full set of 36 Fine-Art Photographic prints, the last of actor Anthony Quinn’s sculptural works, donated by his widow, Katherine Quinn, daughter of Hollywood legend Cecil B. Demille. and the last of actor Anthony Quinn’s sculptural works, donated by his widow, Katherine Quinn, daughter of Hollywood legend Cecil B. Demille.

An impromptu addition to the auction came courtesy of actor Jeremy Irons who put up his famous smoking jacket, worn in his role as Claus Von Bulow in the 1990 blockbuster, ‘Reversal Of Fortune’ for auction. Jeremy called upon model and actress Elle Macpherson to model his jacket for guests whilst he auctioneered the piece himself.

By invitation only, the guest list included Elizabeth, Lady Ashcombe and her daughter Mollie Dent Brocklehurst, Elle Macpherson and her partner Doyle Bramhall II, SuperDry Founder Julian Dunkerton and his wife, Founder of Holland Cooper, Jade Holland Cooper, Xerjoff’s Sergio Momo, ex-captain of the England polo team, Henry Brett, as well as Sinead Cusack and her husband Jeremy Irons.

This collaboration between Elizabeth, Lady Ashcombe, and WellChild has marked the start of a tradition that aims to blend elegance with philanthropy in the heart of one of Gloucestershire’s most iconic locations. The ‘Spectacle of Light,’ which was closed to the public for the evening, created an intimate atmosphere for the event’s distinguished VIP guests.

Reflecting on the success of the event, Matt James, CEO at WellChild, expressed, “As the national charity for seriously ill children, we are embarking on a new chapter in our mission to get children with complex medical needs out of the hospital and thriving at home. By partnering with Elizabeth, Lady Ashcombe and the wonderful team at Sudeley Castle, we’re thrilled to have begun an annual tradition that brings together a new community of supporters to achieve something incredible for the children and families in our network.”
