The Cape Town Marathon is set to become the 8th Abbott World Marathon Majors race, making this an exciting opportunity to be part of marathon history while experiencing one of the most breath-taking courses in the world.
At WellChild, we pride ourselves on offering one of the most supportive marathon team experiences around. From the moment you arrive in Cape Town, our dedicated WellChild Challenge Team representative will be there on the ground to support, encourage and celebrate with you throughout race weekend.

How Much Do I Need to Raise?
Charity place runners pledge to raise a minimum of £2,000 in sponsorship (excluding Gift Aid).
If you already have your own place, there is no set fundraising target – we simply ask you to raise as much as you can for WellChild.

CAPE TOWN MARATHON TERMS & CONDITIONS OF ENTRY
Please read the following Terms & Conditions of Entry carefully.
Fundraising Commitment
- On offer of a place, participants are encouraged to kickstart their fundraising by making a personal donation (£100 suggested) to demonstrate commitment.
- If you have secured a WellChild charity place, you agree to raise a minimum of £2,000.
- If you have your own place (ballot/club), we ask that you raise as much as possible.
Fundraising Milestones
To help you stay on track, the following milestones apply to all WellChild charity place holders:
- £1,000 (50%) by 31 December 2026
- £1,600 (80%) by 1 March 2027
- £2,000 (100%) by race day
- Any corporate sponsorship or match funding must be agreed in advance with the WellChild Challenge Events Team.
- WellChild reserves the right to review your place if reasonable progress is not being made against these milestones.
Payment of Funds
- All funds raised in the name of WellChild must be paid directly to WellChild.
- You are legally responsible for ensuring all offline sponsorship is submitted promptly.
- We ask that all outstanding funds are paid within 4 weeks of the event.
Withdrawal
- If you need to withdraw, you must notify WellChild in writing as soon as possible.
- Donations can be refunded upon request; otherwise, we encourage sponsors to allow funds to remain with the charity.
- You are responsible for returning any sponsorship not yet passed to WellChild if requested.
Eligibility
- You must be 18 years or older on race day.
Health & Fitness
- You confirm you are medically fit to take part and understand the demands of the event.
Insurance
- WellChild does not provide personal accident or medical insurance.
- You are responsible for arranging your own travel insurance cover.
Event Participation
- You take part at your own risk.
- You must follow all instructions from event organisers, marshals, WellChild staff and emergency services.
- Participants are expected to behave in a professional and respectful manner at all times and in a way that reflects positively on WellChild.
- The organisers reserve the right to refuse or withdraw entry if eligibility requirements are not met.
Event Changes & Cancellation
- Event arrangements may change due to circumstances beyond control.
- WellChild reserves the right to withdraw places or cancel participation if necessary.
Media & Communications
- You agree to the use of your name, photos, and video footage for promotional purposes by WellChild and event organisers, unless specifically opting out in writing.
Data Protection
- You must inform us of any changes to your contact details.
All personal data will be handled in accordance with the Data Protection Act 2018 and the General Data Protection Regulations (GDPR).
