Hilti volunteers transform family garden for eight-year-old Syed
Eight year old Syed loves to explore and enjoys the outside space when at school. However, at home Syed’s garden, previously nicknamed the concrete jungle, was the opposite of what he needed.
Syed has Caudal Regression Syndrome which is an abnormality of the spine. He is unable to walk so uses an electric wheelchair when out and about but uses a skateboard and his arms to move around when at home. Syed has no feeling in his lower limbs and his skin is fragile. He needs close monitoring of his hands and feet in case he hurts himself due to friction.
Syed desperately needed an outside space at home suitable to his needs and that he could enjoy.
Hilti kindly provided volunteers to help us completely transform Syed’s garden, for him and his family to enjoy for years to come. Our team worked hard over two days, constructing a timber frame over the existing concrete and an area of artificial grass and composite decking were installed. This area houses Syed’s very own swing with fully supportive seat and summer house.
Syed can now enjoy playing independently in his garden without the fear of damaging his fragile skin. Having an accessible outside space will hugely improve home-life for Syed as well as his emotional wellbeing.
Huge thanks to Hilti volunteers and also to West Way Nissan for enabling us to get ourselves and the tools to Syed’s garden makeover safely.
"Its amazing, what a difference you guys have made"
