WellChild Nurses at the 2019 WellChild Awards

WellChild Children’s Nurses are the winners of this year’s HELLO! Star Women Community of the Year Award thanks to their hard work caring for seriously ill children and their families across the UK during this difficult year.

You can watch the HELLO! award video about our incredible nurses here.

The WellChild Nurses provide essential care and practical support to children and young people with serious health needs and their families. They play a crucial role in enabling children to leave hospital and be cared for at home, reducing the practical, emotional and financial impact for families.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, families caring for children with complex medical needs faced unprecedented challenges. WellChild Nurses across the country have worked tirelessly to adapt their services to support the children and families in their care.

Their work has been recognised by this award from HELLO! at a time when it has been particularly tough for all nurses and other health workers during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The HELLO! Star Women Award winners were announced at a virtual ceremony. HELLO! Editor-In-Chief Rosie Nixon said: “In this extraordinary year it is even more important to use our platforms at HELLO! to shine a spotlight on some true stars who have proven themselves to be beacons of kindness and positivity, despite the challenges they have faced. Our virtual event is no less emotional and special than if we were to meet in person and it has been a privilege to amplify the stories of our deserving winners in this way. Plus, at the end of 2020, it is wonderful to find a reason to celebrate!”

WellChild’s Director of Programmes Tara Parker is thrilled the WellChild Nurses have won this award. She said: I’m delighted to accept the HELLO! Star Women Community Award on behalf of our wonderful team of WellChild Children’s Nurses, who really are angels as far as the families they support are concerned, coordinating their child’s transition from hospital to home, as well as providing nursing care, training and emotional and practical support.

These are difficult times for families caring for complex needs childrenRight nowWellChild Nurses have become more of a crucial support network than ever before. I would like to thank HELLO! for this Award and all of our expert WellChild Nurses for their dedication and hard work during such as difficult time.”

The third annual Star Women Awards celebrates some of Britain’s most inspirational women. HELLO! has recognised six very worthy women who have all shown incredible selflessness and a desire to help others during 2020. Each category puts a well-deserved spotlight on the women whose talents and drive have brought together their communities or inspired others through their bravery, kindness and initiative.
