Join us at our new event Wetwheels Adventures, power boating in Southampton!
Wetwheels boats are truly unique by being wheelchair accessible, giving every disabled person the chance to experience the excitement of power boating. Wetwheels aims to leave disabilities on the shore and offer participants the chance to share laughter with families and carers. Not only can you be a passenger and enjoy being out on the water, but if you join the driving experience, over 5-year-olds can also have the chance to take the helm as the skipper and drive the boat!
There are two different boating options to choose from, a Taster or a Driving Experience:
Departs from and returns to Mercury Yacht Harbour in Hamble. Last approx 1hour.
A gentle cruise along the River Hamble passing villages and marinas. At the mouth of the river, you will gain speed as you pass into Southampton Water for a thrilling high-speed run before returning to the calm of Hamble River for the return journey. This is a mixed speed trip, but rest assured your safety is our priority and we will always work within everyone’s comfort zone
Departs from and returns to Mercury Yacht Harbour in Hamble. Lasts approx 1hour 40minutes.
A gentle cruise along the River Hamble passing villages and marinas to the entrance of Southampton Water where, depending on conditions and tide, there will be two options for the trip:
Option 1:
Cross the Solent passing the infamous Bramble Bank (https://onthewight.com/about/bramble-bank/) and head in the direction of the stunning Cowes on the Isle of Wight (https://www.visitisleofwight.co.uk/explore/towns/cowes). Then return up the idyllic Hamble River and cruise back.
Option 2:
Travel up Southampton Water to spy on the city from the water, watching out for Ocean Liners, and hearing about the history of amazing sights like the Chapel of the former Royal Victoria Military hospital at Netley (https://www.hants.gov.uk/thingstodo/countryparks/rvcp/things-to-do/chapel). Then return up the idyllic Hamble River and cruise back.
Back onshore our WellChild Families Team will be hosting crafting activities for all, and providing beverages (tea/coffee for adults, and squash for children).
Getting out on rivers and the sea, promotes many therapeutic benefits.
