Video guides for parents caring for a child with a gastrostomy
Developed by Oxford Simulation Training and Research (OxSTaR)
New videos developed by Oxford Simulation Training and Research (OxSTaR) help to give new parents confidence in caring for a child with a gastrostomy at home. The resources were created after consultation with parents and carers from the WellChild Family Tree. View the videos and other resources here >>
The videos range from the basics, explaining what a gastrostomy is and why some children need one, through to tips from experienced parents and instructional videos to help with routine gastrostomy care. Other topics addressed include advice about different devices, troubleshooting and an introduction to blended diets.
These videos are designed for parents, but could also be helpful for family members or as part of training for staff. You can watch the videos using the YouTube playlist below, or on the OxSTaR website here >>
The team are still making some improvements to the resources based on feedback from parents and carers. If you would like to provide feedback on the videos, please visit http://bit.ly/GastrostomySurvey
The feedback survey asks you to watch six of the videos, rate the content and answer a few questions on how they can be best used in practice. All participants will receive a £10 Amazon voucher as a thank you.
