With 600 acres of wetland scenery, Martin Mere is a great place to connect with nature. The reserve has around 2,000 different species of birds, mammals, insects, fish, amphibians, reptiles and mini-beasts. There are a variety of talks and tours throughout the day and play areas for kids to explore.
The paths around the waterfowl gardens are all paved and accessible with benches at regular intervals as resting points and the nature trail is fully paved. Most of the hides have lower windows to allow for wheelchair users to view the wildlife and bird books to help with identification. The boat and canoe safari also includes spaces for 2 wheelchairs.
Other accessibility includes accessible map, quiet sessions, long handled nets to enable wheelchair users to participate in pond dipping, cushioned trays for craft activities to enable wheelchair users to participate, fidget toys, coloured acetates and magnifiers. Visual story and and sensory bags (£15 refundable deposit needed) available at request. The on site café caters for a variety of different diets including coeliac, gluten intolerance and nut allergies. Access is via automatic doors and table service provided. Free disabled parking and blue badge holder spaces.
Specific quiet spaces designated around the park and are highlighted on the accessible map. Portable hearing loop, large print menu and safety information available on request. Front of house staff trained in basic BSL and a designated Level 1 BSL trained member of staff. 4 Accessible toilets around the site including one toilet with a hoist and adjustable changing table and a stoma-friendly shelf. Wheelchairs are available for free and bookable mobility scooter available (£10 non-refundable deposit required).
