Apply to the Better at Home Programme
WellChild Better at Home training suites provide home-from-home spaces where parents and carers can learn the often life-saving interventions needed by their child in a safe environment with simulation equipment. They are also used to train the many professionals involved in their care.
Call for applications 2026
Following the successful establishment of 18 Better at Home projects across the UK WellChild are looking to expand the programme into new areas. Applications are invited for the development of new Better at Home training projects to support children and young people with complex needs and all involved in their care. These can be based within a hospital or community setting and include both or either a static suite or mobile equipment. This can be via direct support through parent and family training, and also indirect support through the training of health and other professionals. For this call out we are looking to fund a training project only, we are not accepting applications for WellChild Parent Trainer Nurses at this time. We will accept applications from health providers as well as universities in collaboration with health providers. Currently we are unable to accept applications from other charities including hospices.
For this call out we are looking to fund training resources only. There are three levels of funding we will consider. Below are those three levels with an outline of what this may cover.
- Level 1: Up to £50K – for projects that may require significant refurbishments to the space allocated for the training suite. This will also cover the equipment and resources required. Please note refurbishment costs must not be more than 40% of the total budget requested.
- Level 2: Up to £25K – for projects that may require smaller refurbishments (decoration) along with equipment and resources as required or simply equipment and training resources.
- Level 3: £10-15K – for projects with smaller equipment and resource needs and no refurbishment. This may also cover projects applying for mobile equipment only.
