Special People offer a wide variety of services, including: -Short Breaks: Their care plans are tailored to meet all of your requirements and will take into account all of your likes and dislike. Either in your home or out and about there’s a service plan just for you. - Community Support: They support service users to participate in the activities that they enjoy. This enables them to stay active within the community. - Overnight Care: Their support workers can support clients 24 hours a day 7 days a week. You can be rest assured that all of your needs are taken care of, no matter what the time is. - Holiday services: If you are planning a holiday either in this country or abroad, Special People are able to assist you by providing a trained support worker to accompany you and your family. They are also about to help you source: ABA Therapists, Physiotherapists, Occupational Therapists, Speech and Language Therapists, Teaching Assistants or Nursery Workers.

Family Based Short Breaks Team
The Family Based Short Breaks Team offers a regular overnight or weekend breaks in another family home to children or young people with disabilities. Eligible children and young people will have been assessed as needing this service through a social work assessment by the Disabled Children's Social Work Team (DCT). Family Based Short Breaks gives the child an opportunity to meet new friends and have some fun while giving the family valuable time to relax and recharge their batteries. This service is free.

AFK – Working With Disability
AFK helps children and young people who are disabled or neurodiverse to live more independent, fulfilling lives. They fund mobility equipment not available on the NHS for disabled children and young people age 0-25. They also deliver a range of training, advocacy and employment services for young people with learning disabilities age 14-25.

Afasic England
Afasic is the UK charity representing children and young people with speech, language and communication difficulties, working for their inclusion in society and supporting their parents and carers. They help provide information and support to children, young people, and families affected by Speech, Language and Communication Needs. Their current services include: - Providing a confidential, specialist telephone helpline service for carers and parents - Organising online courses for parents of children diagnosed with Developmental Language Disorder (DLD) - Organising courses for children with Speech, Language, and Communication Needs who are leaving Primary School and starting Secondary School - Providing priority information on new/updated publications and events across the UK - Information booklets that can be purchased from the website, to help with things such as Accessing Speech and Language Therapy or Claiming Benefits https://afasic.org.uk/shop/ The service is free and anyone with a query regarding children and young people with speech and language impairments can use this service. There is no referral required.

Aberdeen Park Nursery
Aberdeen Park Nursery is for children aged 6 months to 4 years. The nursery has a lovely baby room with its own outdoor space; one large, light and airy room for 2 to 3-year olds to play and learn with lots of cosy spaces, and a third room that they use for small group activities and learning experiences; an exciting garden for outdoor learning and a great family atmosphere. They aim to meet children's social, emotional, physical and intellectual needs in a safe, friendly environment. They value parents and carers input and make every endeavour to work in partnership with them. Children learn through play and by exploring and developing their individual interests. The setting welcomes children with SEND and they are committed to working with parents and other professionals to provide good inclusive practice. The Islington link Area SENCO provides support, advice and training re children with SEND. One staff member has attended PECS; Sensory Circuits training; Speech and Language development training. One staff member has gained a Level 3 SENCO certificate and a second staff member is currently studying it. They have experience in working with a range of SEN needs, e.g. autistic spectrum condition, complex syndromes/disorders etc. Short term plans are in place and children’s needs are met by planning focus learning experiences that support children’s learning and development. Fees are on a sliding scale depending on household income and age of child.

Palace for All (0-5s SEND Stay and Play)
Palace for All is a place for children of all abilities, their parents, carers and their families. You and your children can play in a safe, supportive environment. Meet other parents to share experiences and knowledge. PALACE - Play and Learn and Creative Education - is a parent-led organisation for children of all ages and abilities, their carers and families, and a place where you can drop-in and meet in a friendly and stimulating environment. They offer services, activities and events to help special needs children with a range of physical and learning disabilities reach their potential while also supporting their families, carers, relatives and friends. Reflexology Sessions for children are available on those days. Accessible toilets are available. This service is for children with special needs and their families. There is no 'catchment area'. Referral is not required. You can drop-in and visit or ring and make an appointment.

Centre 404 – Days Opportunities
Centre 404 is a charity that offers friendly, reliable and person centred support to people with learning disabilities, autism and their families. Centre 404's Day Opportunities service aims to promote a person centred vision to empower and enable individuals to lead a life that is truly their own. Inclusion is at the heart of the service and each person has their own weekly timetable based on their goals and interests. Service User’s are supported to use public transport where possible to access the Day Opportunities service to increase and encourage independence. Activities involves: - Sports and Fun. - Using and developing skills. - Sensory Activities. The service runs during the weekdays (Monday-Friday) from 10am-3pm. It offers a mixture of community and centre based activities. The Day Opportunities service currently runs at three locations: - Centre 404 on Camden Road (currently under refurbishments). - The Charlie Ratchford Centre in Chalk Farm. - Brickworks Community Centre in Crouch Hill. Centre 404 is a charity that offers friendly, reliable and person centred support to people with learning disabilities, autism and their families. We offer, online, telephone and face to face advice and support to: - Help you understand disability related issues. - Give you information and advice in knowing your rights and accessing the right service for your cared for. - Help you as your child moves through the different stages in life (early years, childhood, moving into adulthood and living as an adult). - Support you to achieve respite. - Give you information about looking after yourself, including volunteer opportunities to develop existing and new skills to help you return to work. - Support you in getting the right benefits at the right time. - Give you information and support around welfare benefits and disability benefits, direct payments and personal budgets. - Signpost you on to other services, if necessary. Centre 404 – Islington Family Carer Action Group
Centre 404 is a charity that offers friendly, reliable and person centred support to people with learning disabilities, autism and their families. Their Islington Family Carer Action Group is a group of family carers of adults with learning disabilities and/ or autism who live in Islington. They meet every two months and always welcome new members. They: - Support each other in facing the many stresses and strains that family carers encounter. - Provide opportunities for senior managers, elected councillors and other professionals to meet family carers, to hear about their experiences and concerns and to answer their questions. - Elect representatives on to key decision-making groups in Islington. - Provide updates about developments in government policy and local initiatives (e.g. changes to welfare benefits or housing issues) that may affect you and your relative or friend. Come along and have your say on the big issues facing people with learning disabilities and their families in Islington (such as Housing, Health Care Services, Fulfilling Lives/Activities, Personal Budgets, Staff Training, Social Care Management, Education and Employment). Meetings are usually 12:30 pm - 2:00pm at Centre 404, 404 Camden Road, N7 0SJ. Refreshments are provided.

On Mondays, they run an activity group for siblings of children with learning disabilities and autism. The session is for children ages 8 - 12 years. Transport is provided but sometimes a contribution is requested.

Out and About is a group for over 16 year olds with autism or learning disabilities. Out and About encourages you to keep fit and healthy by taking part in fun and relaxing activities with friends. Centre 404 is a charity that offers friendly, reliable and person centred support to people with learning disabilities, autism and their families. They currently operate across 8 London Boroughs. Centre 404 runs Holiday Play Schemes in Islington and Enfield during the Easter, Summer and Christmas school holidays. Their Play Schemes are inclusive for those who have a learning disability and/or autism and their siblings. Activities are always based in the community, and minibus transport is provided.
